The Spanish Research Council (CSIC) is the third largest public research institution in Europe with over 3000 scientists and 120 research centers throughout Spain. Within CSIC, the National Center of Biotechnology (CNB) is the largest center with the goal to resolve problems related to biotechnology. The aims of the CNB are to develop high quality and competitive research in biotechnology, with emphasis on human and animal health, agriculture and environment, and to collaborate closely with the industry. The CNB is structured in six Departments: Macromolecular Structure, System Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Microbial Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology and Immunology and Oncology. In addition, there are several research supporting services (Tissue culture BSL-2 and BSL-3 rooms, DNA sequence, Genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Electron and Confocal Microscopy, Cytometry, Fermentation, Baculovirus, X-ray crystallography, Green House, among others). There are over 600 workers in the Center. The CNB publish an annual number of about 200 papers in international journals.
The team at the CNB-CSIC, led by Dr. Juan García-Arriaza, will bring their extensive expertise in virology, immunology and vaccines, to design and develop novel vaccines against pan-flaviviruses, and to evaluate their humoral and cellular immunogenicity in preclinical models.
