UC Irvine is part of the University of California system, located in Southern California. It is a Teer-1 research university, that serves over 36 thousands of undergraduate and graduate students through its numerous schools, including the School of Biological Sciences and its expansive Medical Center. Biomedical research at UC Irvine is inherently multi-disciplinary and collaborative, with high synergy being achieved through its numerous centers of excellence, such as the Center for Complex Biological Systems and the Skin Biology Research center, which Maksim Plikus is part of.
Maksim Plikus is an expert in skin biology, including on aspects of skin development, wound healing and regeneration. His research on skin heavily relies on the use of multiomic and single-cell technologies and his lab is at the forefront of developing and applying bioinformatic tools to single-cell studies. Plikus will bring his expertise in single-cell genomics to the study the effects that mosquito bite has on skin-resident cells of the host, including on dermal fibroblasts and diverse immune cells.
